This summer, London will become the only city to have hosted the modern Olympic Games three times (having hosted previously in 1908 and 1948). Dont know Olympics is all westernized or the poor countries are all easternized...
Anyway,
Here are a few bits of useless 2012 trivia ..
1. During the Opening Ceremony an athlete from the Host Nation must swear an oath on behalf of all the athletes competing at the Games, vowing to abide by and respect the rules of the various sports. Dont know how long the oath will be..
2. Prior to construction of the wave-like Aquatics Centre, an archaeological survey unearthed an Iron Age burial ground on the site and four skeletons were carefully excavated. I saw it on NAT GEO.
3. Black-out curtains will be fitted in all bedrooms in the Olympic Village to help ensure that athletes can nap during the day if they need to. Extendable beds have also been installed to cater for taller athletes.
4. The 8,000 perforated circles on the 2012 Olympic torch represent the 8,000 people who will carry the flame around the UK.
5. Each gold medal is only made up of 1.34% gold. 92.5% is silver and the rest is copper.
6. Synchronised swimming and rhythmic gymnastics are the only two sports in which men will not compete at the 2012 Games. Many disciplines have different male and female versions but women will take part in all sports including boxing. The only Olympic sport which involves men and women competing against each other on equal terms is equestrian.
